Mons Klint – How to reach Mons Klint in Denmark easily !
10Mons Klint is a place that I really enjoyed when I was in Denmark.
Mons Klint could be described as follows:
Imagine an impressive cliff of chalk of 124 meter high (one of the highest point in Denmark) stretching 6km down the coast from Liselund. Some of the cliffs of Mons klint are falling directly in the turquoise seas. Absolutely YES, the scenery is very dramatic and so exceptional. If you have an opportunity to go to Denmark, you should not hesitate one second because Mons Klint is a real experience in terms of geology but also in terms of magnificent scenery.
Mons Klint is a very popular tourist destination in Denmark, so don’t be surprise if the place is crowded at some period of the year.
Reaching Mons Klint can be tricky, you need some organisation. Plan one full day for a visit at the cliff.
By public transport from Copenhagen:
Go to Mons klint by train and bus, but you will need to transfer in Vordingborg then there may be a change of buses in Stege.
- Take a train from Copenhagen to Vordingborg
- Then take a bus from Vordingborg to Stege,
- Finally, take a bus from Stege to Borre / Klintevej
It may seem as an odyssey but it’s not, it’s really easy, connections are frequent. The estimated travel time from Copenhagen to Borre is 2 hours and 15 minutes.
You can check REJSEPLANEN for more information
Once you reach Borre, you have a hike of 6 km on foot to Mons Klint. If you don’t want to walk 6km, you should stay in the bus until Magleby (Toftevaenget).
In Borre you can also visit the “GeoCenter Mons Klint”. They also arrange Guided tours to Mons Klint.
Once you reach Mons Klint, you have 2 options:
- Follow the hiking trails starting on top of the cliff
- Walk down the 200 wood steps to the beach
By going down through the hiking trails or the staircase, you may have the chance to spot some orchids.
Walking/hiking routes around Mons Klint:
- Liselund Park
- Jydelejet
- Havrelukke
- Mons Klint Northern Circular Walk
- Mons Klint Southern Circular Walk
- The Estate Klintholm Gods Klinteskoven
- Hovblege

Nice tips. You can be a travel writer.
I like a place which isn’t crowded but it can’t be helped because this place looks very beautiful.
Thanks a ot Cocomino.
I do also have preference for less crowded place, not always easy to find though but curiously sometimes I do miss the busy urban crowd …Odd, i know.
Wonderful post and beautiful shots too!
I’m inspired!

Thank you very much Anne for the compliment !
Hi, in norway we use to laugh about the “mountains” in Denmark, but it is a good-natured sort of laugh of course. I have bean to some klints in Denmark and it was really interesting nature, and I wouldn’t mind visit Mons klint some day. Nice post.
Hi Bente
Yes you are right, mountains in Norway are from a different category or leagues, that’s for sure
hehehhe
Based in The Netherlands, the tallest peak is a dune
Cheers
Hi,
I like this post! I really want to go to Møns Klint, because I’m still in Copenhagen area. Hopefully, I can make it soon.
Btw, how does it cost maybe one way transportation from Copenhagen to Møns Klint? Is it still good to go there in Autumn?
Hi Dwiyana,
Thanks for your comment.
You can go to Mons klint during Autumn (check the weather, to be sure) you may found some nice automnal colors on the trees while going down from the cliff to the beach.
Going there by bus is a bit tricky (here is the possible option):
By bus, check this website: http://www.moensklint.dk/geocentermoensklintuk/general-info/find-your-way.aspx
Or
Take a train to Vordinborg and then change for a bus to Mon island (you might need tot ake 2 bus). Expect a travel of 3-4 hours. Cost about 200DKK (one way)
Hope it helps !
Hi,
how about it in winter? I am travelling to copenhagen next week and wondering if it is a good idea to go to mons at this time of the year. Also is there cottage or a sort of place I can spend the night in ? thanks
Hi Marwa,
You can go during Winter by car, expect to have perhaps less public transport during that period.
In terms of accomodations, there is a couple of hotels and b&B scattered in the region. last time I went there, i did stop at the beautiful Liselund Ny Slot Manor hotel located only 1 km from Mons klint.
Hope it helps
